Have A Plan
Hi friends!
How is your weekend so far? I am ecstatic to have a 3 day weekend. Friday night was spent celebrating a birthday with great friends, and Saturday was spent catching up with my Mom. I also had a lot of solo time yesterday since the BF is working a trade show all weekend. What better way to spend a Sunday than cleaning and grocery shopping?
OK, so I’d leave the cleaning if I could, but it was getting hard to walk around the apartment haha.
For the past couple weeks, I’ve been seriously slacking on buying healthy groceries and doing any sort of food prep. If there is one major food rule that I need to bring back in my life, its food prep and meal planning. Having a plan is the best way to guarantee you have what you need to succeed. So I wrote out my list and off to the store I went.
For my major proteins this week, I bout the following: 2 lbs of chicken, 1 lb of ground turkey, and 2 large steaks.
Hello veggies!! A wide variety of veggies is on my menu this week. Every single meal and snack I consume this week will include multiple veggies. This photo includes: green onion, celery, spinach, 2 bags of salad, zucchini, a cucumber, a bag of red onions, lots of roma tomatoes, frozen asparagus, and 2 bags of frozen green beans. Whew! I can’t wait to dig in.
These are the side items I bought for the week: a dozen eggs, a can of canellini beans, a can of kidney beans, a carton of low sodium broth, 2 small tubes of hummus, and 3 cans of solid white tuna! The beans and the broth (as well as a good portion of the veggies) went into an awesome soup that I can’t wait to eat for lunch! Recipe coming up tomorrow!
What is the point of sharing my grocery basket? Plan, plan, plan!! Yes, things happen and plans have to change. I, personally, can roll with the punches a lot easier if I have a meal plan in place. Almost all of my food is prepped on the weekend and packaged, ready to grab during the week.
Don’t set yourself up for failure.
Do you plan your meals out or are you a ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ kinda person?

I agree! I’m starting to plan out my meals on Saturdays and shop, then prep on Sundays so there is no choice but to have what I prepped!!! I’m trying to go with more veggies and fresh food that way, again, no choice but to use it or waste money!!! Share your recipies gir!
A few years ago we switched to a fruit and vegetable box delivery service, which FORCED me to meal plan, and to experiment with new recipes in order to eat all the yummy “unfamiliar to me” vegetables that we were delivered. It’s a totally different way of thinking – you look at what you are getting, then plan what to eat around the vegetables. I love it and the way it forces me to get creative in the kitchen!
That is a great idea!! I’ve always wanted to do a CSA type box, but it has been out of the budget. I was so surprised how much money I saved not buy a ton of extra meat or processed foods. Now if I could only get the BF to eat all the vegetables, then I would be set!!
